Business card scanner for Android: how to scan cards in 2026

Business card scanner for Android: what Google Lens and Contacts can do, where they stop, and how a card reader app sends leads to your CRM.

Ondřej Malík8 min read

The short answer: On Android, Google Lens can read a business card and save the phone number or address to your contacts. That works for a few cards. For many cards, badges, several languages and a CRM, use a business card reader for Android such as Swopi, which fills every field and syncs the lead.

If you search for a business card scanner Android users can trust, you will find dozens of apps. Before you install one, it helps to know what your phone already does. This guide covers the Google tools, where they stop, the dedicated apps that go further, and a step by step flow with Swopi. Where we name a fact about another product, we link the source.

What can an Android phone do without a special app?

Two Google tools matter here: Google Lens and Google Contacts. Lens reads the card. Contacts stores the result.

Google Lens

According to Google's help page Get info about your photos and surroundings, Lens can translate text and copy words from images. It can also save the phone number or address on a business card to a contact. The Google Play listing for Google Lens says the same: it can save a business card to your contacts. Lens is free to download and use.

The same Google help page says you can reach Lens from the Google Photos app (open a photo, tap More, then Lens), from Google Assistant on most Android phones, and from the Google app on select devices such as Pixel phones. Which of these you see depends on your phone.

Lens can also select and copy text. Google's page on region selection in Lens explains that after you tap Select text you can copy it, translate it, search it, call a phone number or open a website. On languages, Google's blog says Lens can recognize 30 scripts, including Cyrillic, Devanagari, Chinese and Arabic.

Google Contacts

Google Contacts is where the saved person ends up. The Google Contacts help page shows how to create a contact by hand with a name, email address, phone number and more. Google also notes that contacts sync with Google Contacts and your Android devices. So a contact saved from Lens appears on your other Android phones and in your Google account.

How to save a business card with Google Lens

  1. Step 1: Open Google Lens

Open it from the Google app, from Google Assistant or from a photo in Google Photos, depending on your phone.

  2. Step 2: Point at the card or open a photo of it

Put the card on a flat surface in good light. Take a photo or choose one you already have.

  3. Step 3: Look for the contact option

When Lens finds a phone number or address on the card, it offers to save it to a contact. Tap it and check what was filled in.

  4. Step 4: Fix the fields and save

Add the name, title and company yourself if they are missing. Save the contact to your Google account so it syncs.

Where Google Lens and Contacts stop

Lens is a general tool. It reads anything you point it at: plants, menus, posters and cards. That is its strength, and also the reason it is not a lead capture tool.

  • No CRM. The contact goes to your phone and Google account. Nothing sends it to Salesforce, HubSpot or another CRM.
  • Only some fields. Google describes saving the phone number or address. Name, job title, company and website often need a manual check.
  • No event badges. Lens does not treat a trade show badge as a lead with a name, company and QR code.
  • No notes, tags or event name. You cannot mark a contact as met at a certain event, or add a private note in a lead form.
  • No company data. There is no verified email, direct phone, company size or buying signal.
  • No team view. A colleague cannot see your leads, and a manager cannot see who scanned what.

Dedicated business card reader apps for Android

A dedicated business card reader for Android reads the card, splits it into fields and saves the contact where you choose. Here are some options, with facts from each vendor's own page:

  • The HubSpot business card scanner is free and runs on iOS and Android. It maps the card to HubSpot properties, so it is a good fit if HubSpot is your CRM.
  • Covve lists unlimited business card and QR scanning and 60+ languages on Essential, and event badge scanning from Pro. Its pricing page shows a free trial and no permanent free plan.
  • CamCard says both its plans include unlimited card scanning, and it offers a free trial.
  • Zoho Card Scanner saves scanned cards to Zoho CRM as a contact or a lead. Its Google Play listing names 14 languages it can read.
  • Blinq includes a universal scanner for badges, cards, QR codes and LinkedIn on its free plan, per its pricing page.

How to scan a business card on Android with Swopi

Swopi is an AI lead capture platform for events and in-person sales, made in the EU. The Android app scans paper business cards in any language, event badges (printed name and company, plus QR code) and other QR codes such as LinkedIn or vCard. It works without a scanner rented from the event organiser.

  1. Step 1: Install Swopi from Google Play and sign in

The Free plan includes 5 scans with Swopi AI, so you can test it on real cards before you pay anything.

  2. Step 2: Open the scanner and point at the card

Swopi reads the card and creates the lead with each part in its own field. It reads cards in any language, and the app itself is available in 32 languages.

  3. Step 3: Add a note

Write one line about the talk. Swopi AI uses the note, the company and the event to draft a personal follow-up email for the lead.

  4. Step 4: Check the enriched lead

On plans with Swopi AI, the lead can get a verified business email, direct phone, title, seniority, LinkedIn profile and company data. It is checked by a waterfall of 20+ data providers and official registries, not guessed.

  5. Step 5: Sync to your CRM

The lead goes to your CRM in seconds as native fields, with the event name attached. If your CRM is not on the native list, it can be connected on request within 24 hours.

Tips for a good scan on Android

  • Clean the camera lens. A finger mark is a common reason for a soft photo.
  • Use even light. Turn away from a window or lamp that makes a bright spot on glossy cards.
  • Use a plain background. A dark table helps the app see the edge of a white card.
  • Keep the phone parallel to the card. A tilted photo bends the text.
  • Wait for focus. Tap the card on the screen so the camera focuses on the small print.
  • Scan the back too. Many cards carry a second language on the other side.
  • Check names from other scripts. For Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Arabic cards, make sure first name and family name are not swapped. Pick an app that lists the scripts it reads.
  • Check email and phone. A wrong character in these two fields breaks the follow-up.

Should the contact go to Google Contacts or a CRM?

Privacy on Android: what to check

A card holds personal data, so treat the scan as data you now look after. In the EU, GDPR applies to personal data you keep for business.

  • Store only what you need. Name, company, work email and a note are usually enough.
  • Read the app permissions. A card scanner needs the camera. Ask why it needs more.
  • Find out where the data lives. Look for hosting in your region and a data processing agreement (DPA).
  • Keep company leads out of personal accounts. Use a tool with team admin and access control.
  • Be ready to delete. If someone asks you to remove their details, you should be able to do it quickly.

Swopi hosts data in the EU, supports GDPR, offers a DPA, and has SSO with Microsoft Entra ID and SCIM on Teams. More on the security page.

How this works in Swopi

Swopi turns a card, a badge or a QR code into a finished lead without typing. On Android, you scan, add a note and move on. Swopi AI completes the lead, drafts the follow-up email, and sends the lead to Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Pipedrive, Zoho CRM, monday.com, Raynet, eWay-CRM, SugarCRM, Odoo, Outlook or Slack. In Event Mode, a booth manager sees every lead live, per person, with hot leads first.

Start on the Free plan, then see the card scanner page and pricing if you need more scans, CRM sync or enrichment.

Can Google Lens scan a business card?

Yes, in a basic way. Google says Lens can save the phone number or address from a business card to a contact. It does not send the lead to a CRM or read event badges.

What is the best business card reader for Android?

For a few cards, Google Lens or the free HubSpot app is enough. For a team that scans cards and badges and needs leads in a CRM with company data, choose a lead capture app such as Swopi.

Is there a free business card scanner for Android?

Yes. Google Lens and the HubSpot business card scanner are free. Swopi has a Free plan with 5 AI scans to try. Read our guide to free business card scanner apps for the limits.

Does a business card scanner on Android work in other languages?

It depends on the app. Google says Lens recognizes 30 scripts, and Covve says 60+ languages. Swopi reads cards in any language. Test any app with a few of your own foreign cards.

How do I send scanned business cards to my CRM from Android?

Use an app with a CRM connection. Swopi syncs each lead in seconds as native fields, with the event name attached, and can export CSV, Excel or vCard as well.
