Free business card scanner apps: what is free in 2026

Which free business card scanner app is really free in 2026? Limits, trials and paywalls for Google Lens, HubSpot, CamCard, Covve, HiHello, Zoho and Swopi.

The short answer: A free business card scanner app can be truly free, free for a trial, or free with a low limit. In September 2026, Google Lens and the HubSpot scanner have no scan cap on their pages. HiHello caps you at 5 scans a month. Covve, CamCard and Swopi limit free use in other ways.

Search for a free business card reader and every page says free. The word hides three different things. This guide sorts them out, app by app, with the limits we found on each vendor's own page in September 2026. Prices change, so open the link before you decide. For a wider list of 12 apps, see our guide to the best business card scanner apps.

What does free mean for a business card reader?

Vendors use the word free in three ways. Knowing which one you get saves you a surprise in the middle of an event.

  • Free forever, no cap stated. The app costs nothing and the vendor lists no limit on scans. Usually the app is a door into a bigger product, such as a CRM.
  • Free plan with a limit. You can use the app for good, but you get a small number of scans, or you miss features such as CRM export.
  • Free trial. You get full access for a short time. After that you pay or you stop scanning.

The free options one by one

Google Lens

Lens is the simplest free business card reader. Google's help page says it can save the phone number or address from a business card to a contact. It is a general camera tool, and it does not send anything to a CRM. Read more in our guide to a business card scanner for Android.

HubSpot business card scanner

HubSpot says its scanner is free and has no arbitrary limits or hidden fees. It reads a card and maps the data to HubSpot properties, so the contact lands in HubSpot ready to use. If your team lives in HubSpot, this is a strong free choice. For other CRMs the value drops.

HiHello

HiHello's free plan includes 5 card and badge scans per month. That is fine for one person who meets a few people a month, and a hard stop at a trade show. CRM integrations are part of the Business plan.

ScanBizCards

ScanBizCards works with human transcription. Its pricing page lists a free plan with 2 human transcriptions, one time only, and no CRM export or badge scanning. Extra transcription credits are sold in packages. It suits people who want a human to check hard cards, but the free plan is only a taste.

Blinq

Blinq lists a universal scanner on its free plan, and the page states no scan limit. The free plan is aimed at individuals: two digital cards, sharing by QR code and Wallet. Team features and CRM sync are on paid plans.

Zoho Card Scanner

The App Store listing shows Zoho Card Scanner as free with in-app purchases. The purchases listed there are for Salesforce use. The Google Play listing says the app saves cards to Zoho CRM as a contact or a lead. The stores do not state how many scans are free, so test it before an event.

CamCard

CamCard's App Store page shows a free download with in-app purchases and lists unlimited scanning and CRM sync as premium features. On its pricing page, the company says both business plans include unlimited card scanning, with a free trial and a price on request.

Covve

Covve gives full access for a free trial. Its pricing page states that after the trial you cannot scan more cards, but you keep the contacts you already captured. That is honest, but it means Covve is a paid tool with a test period, not a free scanner.

Swopi

The Swopi Free plan gives you 1 digital card, sharing by QR, NFC and Apple or Google Wallet, and 5 scans with Swopi AI to try the product. It is meant to let you see the scan and the enriched lead on your own cards, not to run a full event. Paid plans have a 14-day free trial in the app. Details are on the pricing page.

When is a free business card scanner enough?

Free is enough more often than vendors like to say. You are fine with a free app if most of these are true:

  • You scan fewer than a few cards a month and no one else needs to see them.
  • You only want the name, email and phone in your phone contacts.
  • You do not need to send the contact to a CRM.
  • You do not scan event badges.

When does free cost you leads?

The price of a free app is not on the price list. It shows up later, in leads that never get a reply. Watch for these signs.

  • A cap stops you at the worst time. If the free plan ends at 5 scans, it ends at the fifth conversation of the morning. The rest of the day goes back to a pen and a pile of cards.
  • You retype data. If the app does not sync with your CRM, someone types each contact again after the event. Typing is where mistakes and forgotten leads come from.
  • Fields arrive half empty. A card gives you a name and an email at most. Without company data you cannot tell a good lead from a bad one, so you follow up with everyone or with no one.
  • Badges are ignored. At a trade show, many contacts wear a badge and hand you nothing. A card only app misses them.

If you are not sure what an event is worth, read our guide on trade show ROI. A lead without a follow-up has a cost too: you paid for the booth and the travel.

How to test a free business card scanner before an event

  1. Step 1: Write down your must-haves

For example: reads German and Polish cards, scans badges, syncs to our CRM, works offline. Cross out any app that misses one.

  2. Step 2: Scan 10 real cards

Use cards you already have, including some in other languages and some with a logo behind the text. Check every field.

  3. Step 3: Find the limit

Read the vendor page for scan caps, trial length and what is locked. Look for the limit before you need it.

  4. Step 4: Do a test export

Send three contacts to your CRM or a CSV file. See what arrives and how much you have to fix.

How this works in Swopi

Swopi is the option for the moment free stops being enough. The Free plan lets you scan 5 cards with Swopi AI and see the result: a lead with a verified business email, direct phone, job title, LinkedIn profile and company data, checked against 20+ data providers and official registries. When you are ready, Pro costs €6.99 per month or €59.99 per year and adds lead form and CRM sync. Event Intelligence costs €18.99 per month or €179.99 per year and adds Swopi AI enrichment and AI follow-up emails. Teams cost €6.99 per user per month, with a minimum of 5 users, and Event Lead Capture is one company licence with unlimited users and scans, at a price on request.

Swopi scans paper cards in any language, event badges and QR codes in the iPhone and Android app, and syncs each lead to your CRM in seconds with the event name attached. See the card scanner and the pricing page. If you use HubSpot, also see the HubSpot integration.

What is the best free business card scanner app?

It depends on your goal. Google Lens is the simplest for a few cards. The HubSpot scanner is free for HubSpot users. HiHello and Swopi give a small number of free scans on a free plan. None of the free options replaces a full lead capture tool at an event.

Is there a business card scanner that is free with no limit?

Google Lens and the HubSpot scanner show no scan limit on their pages. Both are limited in other ways: Lens has no CRM, and the HubSpot scanner is built for HubSpot. Always check the vendor page, because limits change.

Are free business card readers safe for customer data?

Some are, but check before you scan real contacts. Look for the data location, a privacy policy and a data processing agreement. Swopi hosts data in the EU, follows GDPR and offers a DPA.

Can I scan event badges with a free app?

Sometimes. HiHello counts badges in its 5 free scans a month, and Blinq lists badges in the scanner on its free plan. Google Lens does not treat a badge as a lead. Swopi scans badges and lets you try 5 AI scans on the Free plan.

What is the difference between a free trial and a free plan?

A free plan has no end date but has limits, such as a few scans. A free trial gives full access for a short time and then asks you to pay. Covve is a trial. HiHello and Swopi have free plans. Swopi paid plans also have a 14-day trial.
